THE KSN DREAM HOUSE FOR THE CURE
KSN Dream House For The Cure
to raise money to fight breast cancer
WICHITA, Kansas -- An unprecedented community home-building
project that will benefit breast cancer patients in Kansas has been
launched by KSN and a group of leading Wichita contractors. Nies
Homes, New
Home Marketing, The
Oaks Golf Course Community, Star
Lumber & Supply, Fahnestock
Heating & Cooling and a group of other area companies have teamed
up with KSN to make what is expected to be a major community contribution.
All involved will be donating their materials, time, and human resources
to the construction of a one-of-a kind single-family home. Proceeds
from the sale of the home will be donated to the Susan
G. Komen for the Cure Mid-Kansas Affiliate to fight breast
cancer. The KSN Dream House for the Cure will be built by
Nies Homes at The Oaks Golf Course Community. New Home Marketing
will coordinate the sale of the Dream House to potential buyers.
"Susan G. Komen for the Cure has been a cause KSN has supported for years, because breast cancer touches one in every eight women" said KSN General Manager Al Buch, whose wife is a breast cancer survivor. KSN News Director Todd Spessard added, "When we were talking about creating a new project to raise money and awareness, we wanted to construct an event that people could watch from the ground up." Spessard also said KSN will provide not only a behind-the-scenes look at the construction of the home, "but educate viewers about early detection of breast cancer and treatments."
The Komen Mid-Kansas Affiliate plans to use the proceeds to expand the services it currently provides, including life-saving mammograms for local women who otherwise could not afford it. Peggy Johnson, the Affiliate Education Chair for Komen says this new funding will also allow the Mid-Kansas Affiliate "to embark on a totally new project, which will provide new services for breast cancer survivors throughout the south-central region of Kansas."
Award-winning builder Nies Homes has unique plans for the KSN Dream House for the Cure and will serve as the project superintendent and coordinate the numerous donations from suppliers and trades.
"This will be a very special home featuring many of the latest innovative design features, technology, sustainable and energy efficient materials" said Cherie Nies-Cowgill, Vice President of Nies Homes. "As a company we want to give back to the community. And, with my mother having had breast cancer, we think this is a great opportunity to do that."
The Dream House will feature high-end amenities that are part of modern home building. But, the house will also be a showcase for energy efficiency and healthy living. Every design detail of the three-bedroom home has been considered to maximize the picturesque views and to minimize the impact of the sun. Many of the products used in the construction of this home will be environmentally-friendly, sustainable materials and energy efficient 5-Star appliances.
The KSN Dream House for the Cure will be located in the Waters Edge neighborhood of The Oaks Golf Course Community. Just west of Rock Rd. and 63rd St. South, The Oaks Golf Course Community is made up of 5 distinct neighborhoods nestled around the Derby Golf and Country Club. The Waters Edge neighborhood is considered the pinnacle of The Oaks community. The future Dream House owners will enjoy country club living with a championship golf course, clubhouse, exercise facility, swimming pool, tennis courts, pro shop, and grill. Lusk Communities, the developer of The Oaks Golf Course Community, worked closely with New Home Marketing and Nies Homes to donate the lot where the Dream House will be located, to enhance the potential views of the golf course and its natural surroundings. Roger Weast, Vice President of The Oaks at Derby, Inc said "We are always looking for ways to give back to the community and this is certainly a great opportunity to do so."
