WICHITA, Kansas -- A cause we believe in strongly here at KSN is the KSN Dream House for the Cure. More than 30 companies have joined us on the project to build a dream house. The goal is for all of the home to be built with donated materials and labor.

So when the house is finished, all of the proceeds will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

If you're building or remodeling a house, the 2008 Wichita Home Show is a great place to be. We are here because we are building a home. As luck would have it, we also found one of our major contributors to the KSN Dream House for the Cure -- George Fahnestock, owner, Fahnestock Plumbing, HVAC and Electric.

So what got Fahnestock interested in the project?

"Well, you know this is not a brand new story to me or to our community. Cancer of any nature is going to create trauma in the family and the life of the person that's undergoing that trauma," said Fahnestock. "When we were approached by the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Nies family to see if we would be interested in doing something that's really creative, really kind of fun but with outcomes that are truly immeasurable, we said 'we've got to help with that.'"

Fahnestock didn't just jump on a little bit. When they were initially approached about doing the heating and air conditioning, they came back with a response that was over the top.

"It's absolutely the least we can do. Because we're in the plumbing business and we're in the electrical business and we're in the heating and air conditioning business and the fireplace business, we said 'why don't we coordinate all this for the family -- the Nies family.'"

"You know, it's hard to build a home. I'd be a home builder if I thought that was something we could do but that's hard. But if we can coordinate, with one phone call from them to us, to take care of all the trades -- let's do that."

"We've got a great family of employees. We have asked them to assist us and they are breaking down my door to say 'we want to help'. We've got a great family of suppliers and vendors that have all been calling and saying 'what can we do to assist'? So when you start creating that kind of synergy, the momentum in our community is unparalleled."

So what about the technology going into the KSN Dream House for the Cure?

"You know, one of the neat things about the Dream Home for the Cure is that we are going to do everything we can to make it a 'green' Dream Home. Green simply means we are going to use the latest technologies and the most environmentally-friendly things that we can incorporate in the home as we can."

"The high-efficiency refrigerant environmentally-friendly air conditioning system is the highest efficiency -- it'll be a 16 SEER two-speed for your information. We'll couple that with a variable-speed gas-fired furnace so that we can take advantage of the quiet and economy of operation with the greatest degree of comfort."

We are looking forward to the Dream House and we are thankful to have George Fahnestock on board.
